Hi, I'm Jennifer Dotson. I represent our First Ward on Ithaca's Common Council with my wardmate Maria Coles. I'm running for re-election this year, and am asking for your support.

On November 3 you will see my name on the ballot under both the Green and the Democratic party lines. I make it a point to work in coalition and to look beyond party lines. I am a registered Green and am looking forward to and participating in a renewal of the Tompkins County Green Party as an active, positive, local political presence.

Even before my election to Common Council in 2007, I was active in city affairs, serving on the Planning and Development Board, the Board of Public Works, the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Council, the Commons Advisory Board, and others since 2001.

Along these lines, I think it's important that our city be guided by people who know and understand the issues facing the city and their impacts on us as residents. I come to you as a neighbor who has experience with the important issues that affect our community, from our upcoming water supply choice to how we support and accommodate the traffic of walking, biking, TCAT buses, and motorists on our city streets, not to mention the challenge of cleaning up decades-old pollution in our neighborhoods.

I moved to Ithaca just over ten years ago. My partner, Gail Blake, and I own a home on Wood Street.

I am currently the Executive Director of Ithaca Carshare, one of several local organizations pursuing creative solutions to our community's transportation issues. About 700 Ithaca residents are Ithaca Carshare members, including quite a few of my First Ward neighbors.

I love to walk and bike around town to keep in touch with what's going on. When you see me, please don't hesitate to say hi.

And regardless of whether you stop me on the street, call me up, or send an email, I want to know what's on your mind in your daily travels through our neighborhood and our city.
